We also conducted photo surveys with students in which we gave them a list of 20 objects and locations related to student scholarly habits to photograph then interviewed them to explain and explore their photos. Some prompts were location-specific — a place at school or at home where you study, a place on campus or in the library that you don’t like — while others were more open to interpretation: the tools you use for your research assignments, something you can’t live without, your communication devices.
Use the links below to view student photos and quotes organized by themes that emerged from the interviews (sometimes encompassing multiple prompts). You can find our photo survey research protocol on our project website.
